Portraits by two friends and "competitors", the precursors of Sudan's urban photo studios, who, like all good operators, take photos to make a living and write to exist. Two ways of at the same time shedding light on their society, two ways of remembering, of smiling and forgetting. One single way of living: as poets. For one, uniform tones, glamorous poses, and carefully-crafted lighting; the other, animated by his time, instinctively savours furtive modernity.
