South African screenwriter, film director and cinematographer.

Matthew JANKES is an aspiring filmmaker born and raised in South Africa. He studied film through the University of Cape Town and the South African School of Motion Picture Medium (AFDA), training in writing, directing and cinematography. In between making short films he directs, shoots and edits music videos. He is currently doing a re-write on a feature length script, with a view to hopefully direct it in mid 2011. He is a big sports fan and his second love, other than movie making, is too argue about politics with anyone who'll listen.

Matthew Jankes studied through National Film and Television School in the UK. In 2009 he was awarded the Africa First grant by Focus Features. The subsequent short, Umkhungo, went on to screen at international festivals and win multiple awards, including a SAFTA for best short film. Matthew has subsequently worked extensively in television drama. His latest short, ‘Axis Mundi' [codirected with Sean Steinberg], won best script, director and film at the 2018 KykNet Silwerskerm Fees. Matthew is represented in London by Casarotto Ramsay and Associates.
