The ruins of the old city-state Sidjilmassa recall the desert legends. Nowadays, the ksours are installed all along the road that the trailers used to take during their journey. They are essential oases that offer a simple architecture with narrow streets. The ground floor is dark and is used as an attic or as a stable, but the rest of the floors are bright and livable. The inside of the houses is reserved to women. The village well is right next to the mosque, and the water inside is for both the inhabitants and the believers. The social life however is organized according to the Djemaâ rituals: a council of influential individuals and seniors.
