In 1962 director Henning Carlsen made the film "Dilemma" about Apartheid life in South Africa. Nadine Gordimer, who also participated in writing the film script, based it on the book "A World of Strangers". The film was shot illegally under the cover that Henning Carlsen was shooting a commercial. For the two main actors - Evelyn Frank and Zakes Mokae - their participation in the film had grave consequences, as they both eventually had to leave the country and seek asylum in the USA. Director Henning Carlsen was consequently prohibited from ever entering South Africa after the release of the film. In "Jo'burg Revisited" Henning Carlsen, Nadine Gordimer, Evelyn Frank and Zakes Mokae meet again in Johannesburg one year after the inauguration of Nelson Mandela as president. They meet their family and friends and reflect over the situation of the new South Africa mirrored in the experiences they each share of the old era.
