Two black men, Vieux and Bouba, live together in Montreal. Bouba spends his time listening to jazz, reading Freud and sleeping. Vieux is writing a novel, but his great passion is hitting on pretty white girls. However, he does have a soft spot for a student of literature. But white people who suspect that Vieux and Bouba are drug traffickers set their apartment on fire. Vieux has just enough time to get his manuscript, which will become a best seller...
