In the 1950s, Ivory Coast artist Frédéric Bruly Bouabré created a form of writing based on his language, Bété. He turned 400 one-syllable existing words into pictograms. These combined pictograms form his writing.
Only a select few use Bruly's writing, but museums around the world exhibit his drawings.
