At the head of the Directorate of Examinations and Competitions in Ouagadougou, Modibo has become a legend for his inflexibility in the face of interventions and attempts at corruption. As he prepares to enjoy a well-deserved retirement that will allow him to visit his daughters in Europe, Modibo receives a surprise visit from a delegation from his native village. The old chief has just died and a successor must be found. Modibo is strongly considered as a candidate, because in the eyes of the old wise men, his candidacy appears to be a compromise solution to avoid a confrontation between two rival clans. Modibo resisted, but was eventually convinced. But when his candidacy is accepted by the Council of Elders, it is discovered that one condition has not been met: the chief must be married.
