Coming from Manding, the old Dogo Ancestor organizes elections to choose his successor, the next chief of Dogon people who will get the law and the rights applied. Thus, Aru, who is classified 2nd amongst his four sons is elected as first Hogon Dogon, that is, the spiritual chief of all Dogons. Like their elders, they organize funerals in memory of their referential relatives who passed away.
