The comedy-drama "Goodbye Lenin" was a big success in Germany, having been distinguished with the "Deutscher Filmpreis 2013" (German Film Award 2013).
Christiane lives with her two children in East Germany and is a convinced supporter of the socialist regime. When she discovers that her son Alex joined a movement against the East German government, she suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma for 8 months.
In the meantime the world changes: the Berlin Wall falls. When Christiane awakes, the doctors alert her children that she is still very weak and every shock could be fatal for her. Alex decides to never let her know about the political changes in Germany.
He creates an alternative reality for his mother to pretend that the East German regime still exists. But how long can he beware her of the shock that her beloved East Germany has disappeared?
