Sofia is a 17-year old Latina girl searching for her mother whom she believed had died intragic car accident many years back. Having suffered abuse by some of the men in her life
and upon discovering that her mother may still be alive, Sofia embarks on a journey to find her. Along the way, she meets and befriends an African American family who take Sofia in as their own and aid her in the search. Sofia grows and learns more about herself, her fears, and the true meaning of family.
