Overpopulation, lack of hygiene and medical care, decaying facilities, violence, suicides, flouted rights. For several years now, the reports denouncing the inadequacies of the French prison system have been accumulating. But nothing seems to be done about it, as if our country had turned its back on any desire for prison reform. Since 2002, the number of incarcerations has been on the rise. Bernard George's film condemns the dysfunctions of republican penitentiaries. Using interviews and archive footage that seems to come from another century, this film is an eye-opening inspection of detention conditions in France today.
