L'histoire d'un ancien soldat noir, vétéran de la guerre au Vietnam, souffrant d'un traumatisme d'après-guerre. Encouragé et provoqué par l'amour et le châtiment de sa grand-mère et de ses amis, il passe du statut d'ancien soldat amer à un homme fort et confiant.

Un vétéran du Vietnam espérant oublier la guerre et renouer avec la vie américaine est en difficulté. Il lutte contre la désillusion, le manque d'estime de soi et le cynisme.
